We’ve Been Boo’d
Sunday night as I was taking out the garbage, I saw this orange blob on our front porch. Upon closer inspection, I recognized it to be a plastic pumpkin, the kind kids use to put their halloween goodies in. I peeked inside and indeed saw goodies, along with two letters. The first one said:
Happy Halloween
You’ve Been Boo’dThis treat is for you, we hope you enjoy.
The idea is simple, one we hope you employ.
You pass “BOO” along to two other neighbors.
Along with any kind of Halloween favors.
If we all do our part, and spread the good cheer,
By Halloween night it will be very clear,
We’re a friendly bunch, we like to share fun
So please do your part to keep “BOO” on the run!
So what I’m supposed to do, the letter instructed, is to fill two bags with treats with a copy of the letters and “boo” two of my neighbors after dark. The other letter included in the treat bag is a drawing of a ghost (well, a kid dressed as a ghost) with the message “Happy Halloween! We’ve Been Boo’d!”. I’m supposed to hang this other letter by our door so that the other neighbors won’t “boo” me again. (Actually, I wouldn’t mind; I’ll get two bags of treats!)
The idea is, come Halloween night, if this variation of “Pay it Forward” catches on then a lot of houses in our neighborhood will have a ghost posted on their front door. Pretty neat, if you think about it.
So come Halloween, if you go trick-or-treating in our neighborhood and you don’t see this sign on a house, it can only mean one of two things:
a. The owners of the house aren’t that sociable with the neighbors; or
b. The owners of the house got boo’d but are too cheap so they were waiting to get boo’d again (so they don’t have to buy candies to give away!)
