United Nations @ 40 North Pearl
At its membership peak, our project team consisted of 19 people from six countries in four different continents. Quite a diversified gathering of cultures–and remarkable in the fact that americans are actually the minority group in the team. One of our developers, George (who’s an american), once remarked that the only reason he was hired was to satisfy an american quota requirement. (Actually, he was hired because nobody else applied for the job–but don’t tell him that)
Indeed, few things expand your horizon as profoundly as interacting with a diverse group of people day in and day out. I got the inside scoop on Pakistani culture and religion, British monarchy, Indian festivals, and Mexican food, all within the backdrop of the Northeast fall foliage and winter snowstorms. For an ordinary guy from the tropical country of the Philippines, this is definitely not Kansas anymore.
